Billy Arana
President of Arena Cove Stewards
I grew up at the Cove and it is my favorite place on earth. It is where I learned to explore and through that exploration my passion for the coast was born. I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara, where I studied Oceanography and Coastal Environments. With my education and experience I am well suited to help steward Arena Cove. I believe we will never been done learning about the Arena Cove and that as we move forward we must be flexible allowing historical and new scientific knowledge to guide us.
My life has been shaped by this special place and I strive to give back and improve both the natural environment and community resources for the future.

I've been a resident of the Northern California coast for over 20 years. Point Arena has my heart, it always has. It is my root and my home. I feel a deep connection with this land, these waters, and this community.
It is an honor to serve in stewardship of this unique zone and all its inhabitants. I am here to preserve, restore, and ensure a healthful natural environment of thriving vitality. This is a task I show up for with gratitude and with reverence.
Glad to be here on this journey with you all!! ♡♡♡

Kelsey LaCroix
Secretary of Arena Cove Stewards
I have lived in California for the past decade and on the North Coast, Pomo land, for the last 5 years, spending the majority of my life in the state of Vermont. I grew up in the forest surrounded by creeks and have found a new love for the ocean since moving to Point Arena.
Working here as a vegetable farmer, I have felt incredibly supported by the local community and feel that I want to combine my appreciation for the people in this area and our natural surroundings, into a stewardship for the Arena Cove. I feel lucky to call this place home and look forward to learning from those who came before me, to help tend this land together back into a more natural state.

Vice President of Arena Cove Stewards
As a native Northern Californian, I’ve lived in and loved all of the exceptional natural world my entire life. I answered the tough question “Where to retire – mountains or coast?” With a whole-hearted the coast! I had an early career with the California Dept of Fish and Game as a marine biologist, monitoring commercial fishing and scuba diving as a research biologist for EIRs. My later career combined finance and marketing. I’d like to see Point Arena receive our portion of the available State and Federal funds to improve the greater cove area while balancing nature and people in this changing landscape. I am willing to lean in to make this happen.

I have been fishing out of Arena Cove for over 40 years both as a sport and commercial fisherman. Over the years I have watched the development of the pier and the parking area. I was present on the day of the great disaster in 1983 and I have also seen most of the large storms since and none compare!
As one who has caught 1000’s of salmon I feel a responsibility to take care of the streams around me whether they produce a huge run of salmon or only a few Steelhead. Each stream has its own unique purpose for the streams and rivers in the surrounding area.
I would like to see the beach of Arena Cove and the mouth of the creek restored to a more natural environment, in an effort to make the access to the ocean better for both people and fish.

My interest in working with Arena Cove Stewards is based on my choice to be a contributing member of the community that I live in.
I believe that the land/Arena Cove is a place for which we have responsibility.
Being a member of Arena Cove Stewards gives me the opportunity to pay attention to the extraordinary land that is Arena Cove and what it has to teach us
It is an opportunity to work with the human community to develop a reciprocal relationship with Arena Cove; not only restoration of the ecological community, but also restoration of our relationship to the land.
My hope is to help create a culture of gratitude for the generosity of the cove and that the gifts of the cove are accessible to all members of the community.
